UN/CEFACT 24th Forum in New Delhi: enhancing trust in paperless trade

To advance the work on developing standards and recommendations in support of trade facilitation, the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) held its 24th Forum Session from 27 to 31 October in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of India. Around 200 experts from the public and private sector from around the world participated.

One highlight of the week-long activities was a Workshop on ‘Security and Authentication to Stimulate Paperless Trade and Governance’ during which experts exchanged views on a wide range of topics, including authentication frameworks, interoperability of electronic exchange of information, recognition of foreign certifying authorities and governance. The workshop concluded with a recommendation to build a UN mechanism for mutual recognition of Digital Certificates for facilitating cross border paperless trade.

Facilitation of international trade requires continuously improving the ability of businesses, trade/regulatory organizations and other public and private service providers, to exchange products, services and information effectively. UN/CEFACT develops and maintains standards and recommendations which are used worldwide by Governments and business communities.
