Stakeholders meeting Action Plan on Forests and the Green Economy

10 May 2011

Palais des Nations, Salle XII

Stakeholders across the UNECE region are invited to participate in a discussion on developing an Action Plan on Forests and the Green Economy. A brainstorming and structured discussion in working groups will be organized by the UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section, in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) on 10-11 May 2011 in the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland.

Stakeholders active on forest-sector issues, comprising environmental NGOs, academia, research organizations and government representatives throughout the UNECE region are invited to join in the discussion and express their views!

Objectives

The meeting objectives are:

  • to review a draft Action Plan, developed on the basis of submissions received in response to a call for contributions on the Action Plan
  • to define focus areas of forest sector actions
  • to consider key challenges for implementing the actions
  • to discuss enabling conditions needed for ensuring forests’ and the forest sector’s contribution to a green economy.

Outcomes

The meeting will contribute to further developing the Action Plan on Forests and the Green Economy. This Action Plan will be reviewed by the UNECE Timber Committee and FAO European Forestry Commission meeting in Antalya, Turkey, 10-14 October 2011. It will then be presented as a regional sectoral contribution from the forest sector at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).
